Homemade Ornaments {Christmas Book Advent}

 We didn't end up having time to make ornaments today, but my girls helped me in the kitchen and we made a big dinner together, so it was time well spent. I am hoping tomorrow will be less full so we can whip up some salt dough and enjoy making some ornaments.

I'm going to save this photo activity for next year {or later in the month} since I just found it and I really like the idea of adding current pictures to the tree. We had a crazy busy day, so we didn't make the ornaments, but we will later this week.

Writing a Letter to Santa {Christmas Book Advent}

On Monday, we opened a present that was about a little puppy and all he wanted was a boy for Christmas.  We pulled out the lists we made on Saturday and I helped my girls write a letter to Santa. We listened to the story again during lunch since we have it on CD, too, then answered the comprehension questions at the end.

My hubby mailed the responses from Santa early Tuesday morning, so we can get a postmark from the North Pole and get the response in time for Christmas.  Miss A & Miss B LOVE to get mail, so it will be fun to see their reactions.

Christmas Book Advent ~ Making a List

Miss A's list consisted of her "fancy" writing that I got to interpret onto my copy of what she wants.

Miss B is awesome at writing her B's.  She told me that everything on her list starts with a "B." ;P

We read the Queen of Christmas and my girls were very excited to write a list just like Ann Estelle.  I tried to point out the moral - where Ann Estelle determines that Christmas isn't about the gifts, but my girls were insistent that they fill up all the space on their lists, adding many gifts that Ann Estelle asked for. Glad we didn't read The Puppy Who Wanted a Boy book for this activity!

Mom wrapped up all the books and the girls helped put the numbers on the packages {I labeled the backs of the books until I determined the order I wanted to read them in.}  We are working on double-digit number recognition at home, so this was a great activity!

Christmas Book Advent - Nativity

Our "kid friendly" nativity.  We need to add a cow and find Mary.

Find label link below.

We started our Christmas Book Advent early this year since there is a local activity which displays many nativities and has a live display {complete with a camel} tonight.  What a great way to kick off our activities for the holiday season!  We unofficially started the advent last week when we read a couple of books and then cut down our tree and decorated it.
